Creating A Creative Variable From The Overview Screen

With a creative open in the Overview screen, click on the Variables tab.

Click the New button, to open the New Variable screen:

Enter a Name and Description for the variable

In the Type field, click the down arrow and select the required option from the drop down list:

• String
• Email
• Text
• HTML
• Data
• Numeric

Tick the Requiredcheck box to make the variable mandatory.

Default Values

This panel allows you to assign a default value to a variable, this is useful where there may be gaps in data e.g. where some titles are missing in the data, instead of addressing the customer by their last name only, you may want to address them simply as 'Customer'.

Using Conditional behaviors allows you to apply advanced logic to your variable.

For example, if a recipient's status is married, then a holiday prize on offer could be 'a weekend break for two', if the marital status was single, the holiday prize on offer could be 'a weekend break for you and three friends'.

Use default field when used with list (if present):

Maps the variable read only within Send a Message. Makes visible to the user allows you to make the variable visible or invisible to the recipient.

Sample Value

Sample values are used in conjunction with Gallery View to generate previews.

The addition of sample values is not mandatory but may speed the creation of previews in the Gallery View module.

Value Conversion

This panel is used to link the variable to a Look-up Table. See Using Look-Up Tables With Variables.

Click the Save button when done.
